  14. INSTRUCTIONS FOR INSTALLING NETMECH DOS
  15. ---------------------------------------

  17. These instructions were written for users of the DOS operating system.  
  18. Users running under Windows 95 will need to open a DOS box or restart
  19. in command-line only mode before proceeding.  Please refer to the
  20. Windows 95 documentation if you are unsure how to get to a command
  21. prompt.

  25. --- 1. DOWNLOAD NETMECH ONTO YOUR HARD DISK
  26.  
  27. NetMech is available in two formats:
  28.  
  29. - A single 11MB file (NM10.BIN) plus NM10.EXE
  30. - Eight 1.44MB files (NM10_1.BIN ... NM10_8.BIN) plus NM10.EXE
  31.  
  32. We recommend downloading the eight smaller files rather than the one
  33. big file if you are using a modem; that way, if one of the chunks gets
  34. corrupted during download, you only have to re-download a small chunk.

  37. --- 2. INSTALL NETMECH
  38.  
  39. - Stand-Alone
  40.  
  41. If you are NOT installing NetMech into the same directory as a previously
  42. existing installation of MechWarrior 2, your installation process is 
  43. simplified.  Change to the directory where you downloaded NetMech, and run
  44. NM10.

  49. You will be prompted for the name of the directory to decompress into.

  52. - Into A MechWarrior 2 Directory
  53.  
  54. If you plan to use NetMech in conjunction with MechWarrior 2, you will
  55. need to install it into the same directory as MechWarrior 2.  To do this,
  56. copy all of the NetMech files you downloaded into your MechWarrior 2
  57. directory, and then run NM10 with the -y option.

  60. C:\MECH2> NM10 -y
  61.  
  62. NOTE: If you don't run NM10 from the same directory as MECH2, but
  63.       you select that directory at the prompt, you will have to confirm
  64.       overwrites for a large number of files.

  68. --- 3. CONFIGURE NETMECH FOR YOUR COMPUTER

  70. Before you start playing NetMech, you will need to configure NetMech for
  71. your particular hardware configuration.

  73. Change to the directory where you installed NetMech, type INSTALL at
  74. the command prompt, and press the ENTER key.

  77. C:\MECH2> INSTALL
  78.  
  79. This will launch the NetMech setup program.  Follow the instructions that
  80. are displayed.  An explanation of the NetMech setup program can be found
  81. in the NetMech documentation file, NETMECH.TXT.  This file gets decompressed
  82. along with the rest of the NetMech files when you have completed step 2 above.

  86. --- 4. FIND SOMEONE TO PLAY AGAINST
  87.  
  88. Since NetMech is a multiplayer game, you will need to find an opponent before
  89. you can play.  If you don't know anyone else who has NetMech, visit the
  90. NetMech web page, http://www.activision.com/netmech, or read the section
  91. "Finding Other MechWarriors for Modem Games" in NETINFO.HLP or NETINFO.TXT.
